Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum's Zawraq (Ire) (Shamardal), one of the leading protagonists for Saturday's G1 Investec Derby, has been ruled out of the blue riband by trainer Dermot Weld. Racing manager Angus Gold said of the Listed 2000 Guineas Trial winner, “He did a bit of work this morning and moved beautifully under Pat Smullen, but by the time he got back to the yard he was definitely not right again. It's very bad timing.” His absence is the most notable as the final field was confirmed, with Anthony Oppenheimer's May 14 G2 Dante S. winner Golden Horn (GB) (Cape Cross {Ire}) facing 11 rivals.
